Bloomington Indiana | The unthinkable happened earlier this month when 83 year old Martin Rutherford died of an adverse reaction caused from this year’s flu vaccine.
Martin Rutherford who was in the moderate stages of Alzheimer’s disease was only recently stripped of his right to drive his daughter Melissa Rutherford said, so it was not uncommon for the elderly gentleman to walk around town visiting multiple drug stores, typically for scratch off lottery tickets.
Dad was retired with not much to do, so he could easily visit for 7 drugstores a day for lottery. We have a Rite Aid, two Walgreen’s and a CVS all within 6 blocks of each other. Dad always felt lucky visiting multiple stores for his scratchers. But this is crazy.
Little did Melissa know that her dad was anything but lucky last Thursday, when he was admitted to Monroe Hospital after suffering from extremely high temperature, rash and ultimately a convulsion which the CDC says is “completely safe”.
The extremely high temperature in conjunction with the convulsion was too much for the elderly man’s body, and the trauma from the seizure was enough to take Martin Rutherford’s life.
While the hospital originally stated the man’s death as a secondary complication from pneumonia, they later rejected and replaced the cause of death when the man’s updated medical history made its way to the hospital the following morning.
It appears Mr. Rutherford went on to visit five separate drug stores that fateful morning, but security footage from each store showed the man not getting his Lotto, but standing in line for his free flu shot, over and over again. He did this while visiting each and every Pharmacy in town, apparently forgetting his previous visit and inoculation.
His daughter welled up saying: “Dad always liked the free stuff, and he always stressed the importance of the flu shot… how could this have happened”?
The doctor at Monroe had this to say:
The viral load associated with the flu was so high we misdiagnosed him at first glance and thought he may have been hiv-positive. This was not the case. The following morning five separate Pharmacies sent in reports of him receiving flu vaccines. Mr. Rutherford died, in essence from an overdose of the flu vaccine. Typically there is a safeguard for this to happen as pharmacies share patient data, but Mr Rutherford’s records show he personally signed a waiver, excluding pharmacies from sharing his personal data with each other. His mental condition had him repeat his shot several times.
A Walgreen’s Pharmacist by the name of Preston Peter’s recounts the elderly fellow as “happy and chipper” thanking the young pharmacist multiple times for what he called “a total life saver”.
Anti-vaxxer Nidal Farooq says this is proof that vaccines are trying to “kill us all”. Mr Farooq, a Michigan man, says that he and his family are religiously exempt from all vaccines, and even though his wife is presently quarantined with the measles, he will not be vaccinated, nor will any of his children in the future.
On the other end of the coin pro vaccine advocate Michael McCarthy tweets that “the elderly man took 7 vaccines before his immune system was compromised, and he was 96 years old! If this isn’t an argument for vaccinating babies at birth I don’t know what it is.
